Application Updates
Beginning 04/10/2000, byLight Technologies applications use a new "Update Technology". Updates allow you to update a previously installed application without having to re-download the entire Installation file. Normally update downloads will range in size from 300k to 1mb. This greatly reduces the time to download an update that fixes bugs and/or adds features.
The application version you are currently using can be found by clicking on "Help|About". This will cause the About/Copyright window to appear. In the case of 20/20, it will look like:
Below the Application logo is the version string "Version 2.2.0 (20000403)".
The number in parenthesis is the file date of the 20/20 executable (2020.exe). The version number 2.2.0 (x.y.z) is made up of three parts:
x-Major version number
y-Minor version number
z-Update/Patch number
The only drawback to using the update technology is that updates MUST be applied in order. For example, you check the 20/20 page on hotfreeware.com and see there are two Updates available. Update #2 adds a feature that you want. You check your version of 20/20 and it is 2.2.0 (no updates applied). You must do the following:
Download Update #1 and run it. This will update 20/20 with Update #1 changes, and change your version to 2.2.1.
Download Update #2 and run it. This will update 20/20 with Update #2 changes, and change your version to 2.2.2.
If you attempt to apply an update out of sequence, the update program will display an error message indicating so and then terminate without applying the update (no harm done).
At any time you can download the main installation file (which always contains the current version) and install over the top of your current installation.
Updates do NOT affect your current registration status. If you have previously registered, applying an update will leave your existing copy of 20/20 ad-free.
